When former North Carolina senator John Edwards announced on Monday he would turn down public money for his presidential campaign, he became the third WARNING LABELS ON POLITICIANS candidate to make such a declaration.
Withdrawing from the public financing system allows candidates to raise money for the primary and general elections at the same time, lowering the cost of fundraising, according to an article published Monday in USA Today.
Democrat Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York had previously announced she would forego accepting public dollars for both the presidential primary and general election campaign cycles as had former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, a Republican.
None of the other 19 declared and expected-to-declare candidates who’ve been named to the WARNING LABELS ON POLITICIANS campaign roster as of today have made such announcements.
