A Politico.com article details how the John Edwards campaign is mailing DVDs to more than 70,000 Iowa households this week. As a public service, Bob McCarty Writes offers a condensed nine-snapshot version of the “universal health care” talking points that appear on the video. Below each photo, Edwards campaign info appears in “bold type” while Bob McCarty Writes commentary and analysis appears in italics.
“America spends over $2 billion on health care each year.” Maybe it’s true. Maybe it’s not. Americans spend a lot on health care, so we move on, still looking for an Edwards solution to the country’s health care woes.
“Yet, there are 47 million uninsured Americans.” More numbers. No solutions. We move on.
“1 in 5 non-elderly Americans lack health insurance.” More numbers. No solutions. We move on again.
“44,000 Iowa children have no health insurance.” If this number is true, that’s a lot of kids without health insurance. Makes one wonder what was going on during the Democrat administration of Gov. Tom Vilsack. Without solutions, however, it stands as one of many numbers thrown out with the intent of scaring potential Iowa voters into misguided action (i.e., voting for John Edwards). Still no solutions. Next…
“Health care costs in Iowa have grown 8 percent a year for the last 25 years.” Again, what was going on in Iowa during the past eight years with Dems in the Iowa governor’s mansion? Next…
“One-half of U.S. bankruptcies are caused by medical expenses.” And why are medical expenses so high? In part, because of trial lawyers helping drive up the cost of health care. Did I mention John Edwards built his vast personal fortune as a trial lawyer? More numbers. Next…
“An estimated 18,000 people in the U.S. prematurely die each year because they’re uninsured.” Every death seems premature to someone — especially the person who dies! — so help us out and define “premature.” Next…
“John Edwards — It’s time for Universal Health Care.” After all that, he still offers little in the form of outlined, step-by-step solutions. He does, however, offer frightening scenes (see hand-wringing in next image).
As promised, hand-wringing. Add haunting music, and you’ve got a dramatic moment…minus any solutions.
It’s no wonder why John Edwards is being asked to display Warning: John Edwards labels on all advertising, literature and signage related to his campaign. After all, the WARNING LABELS ON POLITICIANS campaign is based on one simple truth: Nothing is more dangerous than a politicians!
