Former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby was convicted Tuesday of obstruction, perjury and lying to the FBI an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative’s identity. Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, is the only person charged in the case, which grew out of an investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity. Now, more than ever, I’m sure Libby — himself a lawyer — is convinced of the truth of the oft-quoted former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes adage, “This is a court of law, young man, not a court of justice.”
