Today, it appears, Putin is striving to establish himself as the latest “IN” a long line of oppressive dictators. According to a Drudge Report Flash today, Putin has decreed the creation of a new super-agency to regulate media and the internet, sparking fears among Russian journalists of a bid to extend tight publishing controls to the relatively free Web.
Should anyone be surprised by Putin’s actions? Not really. His last name ends with the same two letters as his predecessors in power, Josef StalIN and Vladimir LENIN.
