Soon after Rudy Giuliani’s appearance on ABC News’ 20/20 program last night, the former New York City mayor’s campaign strategists must have realized he goofed. Early this morning — 1:25 a.m. ET, to be exact — an Associated Press story hit the wires with this headline: “Giuliani: Wife won’t be Cabinet member”.
Apparently, Giuliani had tried to ride the fence in response to Barbara Walters’ questioning about the role his wife, Judy, would play in a Giuliani Administration should he win the White House.
If he had said something like, “She’ll have no role,” Giuliani may have figured he’d have to find wife number four in time for election day. So, instead, he told Walters he’d be open to his wife attending Cabinet meetings on issues in which she’s interested. That’s when the Giulianie “Clean Up On Aisle 4″ media team sprung into action.
With gaffes like this happening so far in advance of the first presidential primary, it should come as no surprise that the Warning Labels On Politicians campaign is keeping Giuliani on its roster for the duration of the campaign, hoping he’ll agree to display Warning: Rudy Giuliani labels on all advertising, literature and signage related to his campaign.
