Elizabeth Edwards’ New Neighbor Gaining Fame

April 11th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Thanks to news media coverage and bloggers like me (See the Bob McCarty Writes post of April 9, ‘Edwards on Guns, Poor: ‘Not in my backyard!’), Monty Johnson is somewhat famous!

A News & Observer article today describes how the 55-year-old Republican and long-time resident of rural Orange County, S.C., has received a lot of attention from the national news media and bloggers alike ever since comments made about him by Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards, were published. The comments related to Mrs. Edwards’ dislike of Johnson, whose 42-acre plot sits adjacent the 102-acre wooded site where her family is building a new 28,000-square-foot home — a “palace” by local standards.

The most telling paragraph in the article, in my opinion, was this one:

Efforts to reach Elizabeth Edwards on Tuesday failed. John Edwards, asked about Johnson while catching a flight for New York on Tuesday night, said, “You’ll have to ask Elizabeth about him.”

I say the above paragraph is “telling,” because it tells me the trial lawyer-turned candidate Edwards will allow anyone to “take the fall” — even his wife! — before accepting responsibility for an action or statement that could negatively impact his campaign.

“Nothing is more dangerous than a politician.”
