‘Population Control’ Search Yields Unexpected Fruit

April 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Today, I was looking for the web site of a group I had heard was advocating population control as a means to curb global warming, a favorite topic of mine at Bob McCarty Writes. Upon arriving at the web site of Californians for Population Stabilization, I thought I had found my target. I was wrong.

They threw me a curve with the short headline, The Problem: Too Many People, in the upper left section of the home page. After reading it, I expected to read a bunch of drivel written by some ultra-liberal tree-huggers, whale worshippers and the like. Here’s what I found instead:

“Californians know what’s happening to our state because we’re forced to face the worsening consequences on a daily basis: impossible traffic, unbreathable air, endless urban sprawl, badly overcrowded schools, a dangerously depleted health care system, loss of open space and habitat, depressed wages, heavier taxpayer burdens, and more.

“All of these problems have two things in common: they are robbing us of the quality of life for which we work so hard and they all have the same cause: too many people.

“Too many people and too few resources. America’s open-door policies have left California, and the nation, with a continued and unsustainable flood of immigration. And something must be done.”

Hooray! CAPS isn’t a wacko group after all! Instead, it’s a group of people working “to formulate and advance policies and programs designed to stabilize the population of California at a level which will preserve a good quality of life for all Californians.” Primarily, it appears, they want immediate immigration reform so they can simply preserve their way of life.

Best wishes, CAPS, and sorry for jumping to conclusions.
