At Bob McCarty Writes, I’ve tried to keep my readers in touch with the many ways Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking Russia back to the days of central government control over everything. Today’s tidbit stems from an April 27 New York Times article outlining Putin’s decision to suspend his country’s compliance with a key pact hammered out at the end of the cold war.
Some speculate Russia’s withdrawal from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CAFE) could signify the beginning of a new Cold War-style arms race. Whether it does or not remains uncertain. In any case, the news makes a Cold Warrior like me take pause.
While researching this post, I found the folks at Central Asia News posted a video clip from an episode of The Simpsons on YouTube. Though it’s only a cartoon from a show I don’t watch, it might not be too far off the mark (except for parts like the one where Vladimir Lenin breaks out of his glass burial/display case). Take a look at it below and enjoy!

Treaties that constrain Russia are good. Treaties that constrain NATO are bad.
