I read an article over the weekend about how scientists used mental stimulation and drug treatment to reverse memory loss in mice. While researchers hope the treatments may eventually help people with Alzheimer’s and similar diseases regain lost memories, I wonder whether these efforts might help politicians and political appointees like Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez recover lost memories taken away by Partzheimer’s.
As reported in several Bob McCarty Writes posts, each of the three were diagnosed with the condition also known as Convenient Memory-Loss Syndrome, after finding themselves in pressure-packed situations such as testifying under oath or answering tough questions from members of the news media.
Clinton’s track record includes failing to recall key facts no fewer than 99 times while under oath in 1999 (See this post), while Gonzalez failed to recall key facts at least 71 times during an appearance before a U.S. Senate panel (see this post and this post). McCain, on the other hand, couldn’t recall key details about his involvement in the 2004 presidential campaign (see this post).
While we wait to learn whether these treatments can help cure politicians, government officials and others, we must continue to raise raise public awareness about the horrible affliction known as Partzheimer’s. Hopefully, we can find a cure before other politicians and government officials are stricken.
