Almost daily, I find at least one article in which a Hollywood star or other type of celebrity is given an opportunity to espouse his or her beliefs in a flavor-of-the-month cause. Most recently, I found an article in which actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s scientific expertise on the subject of global warming received grand attention. That article, in turn, prompted me to explain why I DON’T LISTEN TO HOLLYWOOD!. The truth of the matter is this: DiCaprio is a hypocrite.

On the one hand, DiCaprio fancies himself an expert on global warming. He sent messages to Cannes Film Festival-goers, warning that human beings face extinction as a result of the environmental crisis, and he stars in a soon-to-be-released film, 11th Hour, which carries the same doom-and-gloom, consensus science story line as Al Gore’s Academy Award-winning documentary, an inconvenient truth.

On the other hand, the diminutive actor owes his career to global warming.

“Come again?’ you ask. Let me explain by taking the position of a modern-day global warming advocate:

“Titanic, the movie, was based on the true story of the RMS Titanic, an Olympic-class passenger liner that hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic on April 14, 1912, and sank the next day. I contend that, had it not been for global warming, the iceberg struck by the ship would have been larger — much larger — and, therefore, much more visible to the ship’s crew. In turn, the ship would have been able to avoid a collision with the iceberg and the story upon which Titanic was based would have never been written. Had it not been for global warming that caused the shrinking of the iceberg and the sinking of the RMS Titanic, DiCaprio might still be a small, unknown actor waiting for his big break.”

So there you have it. Hypocrisy like that displayed by DiCaprio is the reason why this blogger often says, “I DON’T LISTEN TO HOLLYWOOD!“
