A Tribute to Honor a WWII Soldier. Fortunate to have heard the stories and to have written them down. My father, Domitilio Garcia, from
Santa Fe, New Mexico, was a Medic and served in the area of Cairo, Egypt, later his Unit moved to Scicily, Italy, Capri, Naples, and on to Rome and Florence on the Arno River. His records have been burned at St. Louis, Mo. I have searched for his Unit Number... Why, so that I could follow his Tour and Route in the Air Corp and Army from 1942-1945. The War and his experiences were so important to him throughout his Life. He was not drafted because of his age...28. He was a volunteer. Behind he left a wife and two children. Mama grew a Victory Garden and kept vigil praying that he would return. I will never forget the Day in 1945...The whistle went off at the
Penitentiary, people flowed into the streets like shadows with wide smiles, cars honking, all headed for the Santa Fe Plaza where the
community gathered for Fiesta and other occasions...On this Day...My Papa was coming home! If anyone served in Egypt from 1942 and knows the Unit Number and followed the same Route, please write. Time is not on my side as I am 72 years old and I have two twin grandsons who would like to travel with me to Old Cairo and the area to feel the sand and the history of these heroic soldiers who have cast memories that live onto Today.

Stevereenie -- I thought having all the stories up in time for Memorial Day was appropriate. Thank God for folks like your dad and mine. Thanks for posting. -- Bob

Hadn't realized that all the installments were available now when I first commented. Liked this story too. My dad was in the infantry (I guess mortar man) in France during WWII and fought under Patton. ..... Next Stop Lauderdale
