Kucinich Joins Congressional Black Caucus/Fox Debate

May 31st, 2007 · 2 Comments

For the first time ever, I think I agree with Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).

Kucinich PhotoGranted, he’s one of the most-liberal members of the U.S. House of Representatives and possibly the darkest horse seeking the Democrat Party presidential nomination. Regardless, I must say I finally agree with this man on one count. In a news release yesterday, Kucinich said:

(1) He would definitely participate in a September debate sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus and scheduled to be broadcast on the Fox Television Network; and

(2) The decisions made by Sens. Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama to skip the debate simply because it was to be broadcast on Fox amounted to a collective snub of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Maybe the twice-divorced, jockey-sized peacenik from Cleveland is just seizing the opportunity to grab headlines and make the front-running candidates look bad. Doesn’t matter. In this case, I tip my hat to the little man for doing what’s right…possibly for the first time in his life.

Dennis is correct. The Congressional Black Caucus has the right to decide where it will hold its debate. Edwards, Obama and Clinton are treating the members of the Congressional Black Caucus like children who don’t know what they are doing.

Writers at “The Black Agenda Report” have declared Kucinich to be the Black Candidate. They are correct. Of all the candidates, Kucinich is most respectful of issues that matter most to African-Americans.

What good is a President who can only speak to a limited audience? Obama, Clinton and Edwards may think they can win an election by preaching solely to the choir. Moves like this make them unqualified to be President.

Ruth — Your comments are interesting. When you say Kucinich — rather than front-runners Hillary or Barack — is “the black candidate”, it puzzles me how you can think that way. After all, how can one candidate be the candidate for an entire race of people who share such diverse beliefs, dreams and aspirations? Regardless, I appreciate your post! — Bob
