Articles Detail Komen-Planned Parenthood Ties

June 10th, 2007 · 5 Comments

On the occasion of the Susan G. Komen Foundation holding “Race for the Cure” events around the country, purportedly to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research, I recommend you read two articles which highlight the financial ties between Komen and the pro-abortion group, Planned Parenthood:

The first article, Abortion Controversy Taints Komen Race, was written by Doug Edelman at The Conservative Voice in advance of the Komen St. Louis race event scheduled for June 16.

The second article, Former Komen Breast Cancer Advisor Speaks Out on Abortion Link, appeared at LifeNews.com in January 2005, but remains valuable in terms of the content it delivers. Written by Steven Ertelt, it details Eva Sanchez Silver’s decision to resign her position with Komen after she became aware of the fact that Komen was making donations to Planned Parenthood and refused to acknowledge the abortion-breast cancer link.

Everyone wants to cure breast cancer. Unfortunately, however, not everyone wants to end abortion.

Find out if Komen is funding Planned Parenthood‘s pro-abortion efforts in your area by contacting your nearest Komen or Planned Parenthood affiliates in person or online and ask them. If they’re slow to respond, please know that they are required by law to provide copies of their IRS Form 990s — think “report card” — to anyone who asks for a nominal cover-their-costs fee.

Idaho congressman Bill Sali argues the link between abortion and breast cancer. This led to an ugly public fight with the speaker of the Idaho house last year, who was fighting breast cancer at the time. And such are the times, we can well suppose that as much as Ms. Komen loses to right to life, she will gain from free choice supporters. Boycotts are satisfying , I guess, but not very effective: my local WalMart does a great business without me.

BB — I’m not a big boycott advocate. Instead, I just encourage people to learn more about an organization (Komen) they might be supporting without knowing what the organization does with some of its its money. — Bob

Thank you for visiting my blog.

I found out recently that Paris Hilton’s great grandfather, wrote out family members from inheriting the hotel chain.

Being pro-choice I’m not sure what to think about your post.

My blog is lefty, but still feel free to disagree.

    Regards.

Renegade Eye — I haven’t heard that about the Hilton family fortune. No surprise, though, because I don’t keep up with it. As far as your pro-choice position is concerned, I can’t fathom thinking that way. Life is too precious. Thanks for posting. — Bob
