Craig Gordon reports in a Newsday article today that Rudy Giuliani is a self-serving, greedy and opportunistic politician who opted to line his own pockets in lieu of making a worthwhile contribution as a member in good standing of an elite Iraq study panel.

Okay, maybe Gordon didn’t really use those words, but that was the impression I was left with after reading his piece about the former New York City mayor.

Gordon outlines how Giuliani opted to terminate his membership on the Iraq study panel last spring after its top Republican gave him a choice: either attend the meetings or quit. Why the ultimatum? Citing several in-the-know sources, the writer explains Giuliani’s failure to show up for a pair of two-day sessions stemmed from conflicts with paid public appearances worth a combined $300,000. In other words, he opted to line his pockets rather than honor a commitment he had made to public service.

And there you have it. Giuliani IS a self-serving, greedy and opportunistic politician. My words. Not Gordon’s.
