Put Bill Barnes in Charge of Homeland Security

June 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Today, I read an article, Ex-Marine, 72, Teaches Pickpocket a Lesson. Published at FoxNews.com, it highlighted the story of Bill Barnes, an ex-Marine, former Golden Gloves boxer and retired iron worker who took matters into his own hands after a suspicious character had “invaded” his space.

To be precise, Barnes detected a would-be pickpocket attempting to steal $300 in cash from the front left pocket of the shorts he was wearing. In no time, according to the report, Barnes had grabbed the man’s hand with one of his own and, with his other hand, “cleaned” the man’s “clock” right there in front of the sales counter inside a Grand Rapids, Mich., convenience store.

After reading that article, I came to a single conclusion: Because Bill Barnes has proven himself able to take swift and decisive action immediately upon sensing a threat; therefore, I think he should be put in charge of the Department of Homeland Security ASAP.

In that position, Barnes would be responsible for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Border Patrol, Transportation Security Administration and a slew of related agencies. As a result, I honestly believe he would take whatever steps were necessary to halt the invasion of illegal immigrants at our borders and to prevent radical Islamic terrorists from stepping foot in this country.

With those two problems solved, I think I would sleep more soundly at night. Wouldn’t you?
