Immigration Reform Argument Harkens ‘The Jerk’

June 27th, 2007 · No Comments

It’s an easy “out” for those who don’t share my views* on the so-called immigration reform legislation being bantered about in the U.S. Senate this week. Rather than engage me in a fact-based debate on the issue, they resort to accusations: “You hate Mexicans!”

That makes about as much sense as the character played by comedian/actor Steve Martin did during one funny and memorable scene in the 1979 film, The Jerk. Take a look:

Next time someone equates my stance on illegal immigration with hating Mexicans, I will automatically envision them playing the role of Navin Johnson, the white-suited gas station attendant in The Jerk.*[Editor's Note: By the way, I believe the above-mentioned legislation amounts to nothing less than a sell-out -- SHAMNESTY -- and that we simply need to ENFORCE EXISTING LAWS instead of crafting new ones that won't be enforced.
