Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney outdistanced his fellow Republican presidential candidates to win the Iowa Straw Poll Saturday.
Romney told reporters he owed his victory to the hard work of hundreds of young, bike-riding campaigners who carried his unique message door to door across the state. (Just kidding!)
Other results included the following:
- Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee finished second;
- Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas finished third;
- Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado finished fourth;
- Rep. Ron Paul of Texas finished fifth with ten percent of the vote;
- Rudy Giuliani of New York earned less than one percent of the vote as did Sen. John McCain of Arizona, presumably because they skipped the event; and
- Newt Gingrich was
and Fred Thompson werenot included in the poll since they remain undeclared to this point.
Correction: Fred Thompson did get one-point-something percent of the vote.
