In a National Review Online piece last week, Governors Win: The case for Mike Huckabee, S. T. Karnick hit the nail right on the proverbial head in the first two paragraphs, writing:
Look back into the history of the past century, and one U.S. political-cultural truth is eminently clear: Governors win the presidency.
Just consider the following: George W. Bush: Governor of Texas. Bill Clinton: Governor of Arkansas. Ronald Reagan, California; Jimmy Carter, Georgia; Franklin Roosevelt, New York; Calvin Coolidge, Massachusetts; Warren G. Harding (Lt. Governor of Ohio before serving as a U.S. Senator but missing over two thirds of the roll-call votes during his tenure and hence leaving little paper trail); Woodrow Wilson (New Jersey); William Howard Taft (governor-general of the Philippines); Theodore Roosevelt (New York). Governors win, and when it’s a governor running against a U.S. senator or even vice president or president, the governor wins.
Of course, there’s more to the article. Click here to read it all.
Since Ron Paul remains somewhat of a long-shot, I’m gonna hedge my bets and go ahead and break out a new HUCKABEELIEVER bumper sticker. Simply click here or click on the graphic above to place an order.
Note to Ron Paul supporters: Please save your comments for another post. This post is as much a reality check for you as it is a “Plan B” of sorts for me. Who knows, maybe the Huckabee-Paul ticket I mentioned in a July 7 comment is still a player?

huck has more support than paul? not by what i’d consider a truer barometer of support than some outdated polling methods… in terms of dollars donating paul is doing well and making him the envy of some of his competition.

Hi Bob,
This is what angers most about Americans and our views on voting
“Since Ron Paul remains somewhat of a long-shot, I’m gonna hedge my bets and go ahead and break out a new HUCKABEELIEVER™ bumper sticker…”
Please tell me you are actually going to vote for Ron Paul since you originally were supporting him.
I understand that under the barrage of attacks/emails/requests of RP Supporters it may have angered you that so many wanted you to remove that image (I hope you understand that even though it is tongue-in-cheek: it paints a horribly distorted image of the man that should be president). Yes I understand the satire in the image but it’s likely to mislead those unaware of Ron Paul’s true stance and platform.
I urge you to support principles instead of a candidate you think “has a shot”. Like I said this is what angers me most at election time – Americans don’t want to vote for a supposed “losing horse” – they want to win – and win at any cost it seems.
The cost of our freedoms, liberty… you don’t need me to finish the list.
Please come back to the Ron Paul camp. On behalf of all Ron Paul supporters please accept my humble apology for the barrage of emails regarding your image.
But please re consider your support of Ron Paul as the best candidate for President in 2008.

Ryan T — Okay. I’ve reconsidered and, after much deliberation, I’ve decided I will vote for……………… Mike Huckabee!
