Russian Fantasy Reveals World Map of 2053

September 22nd, 2007 · 6 Comments

I found an interesting item today at the Strange Maps blog. I’ve filed it under “Russian Fantasies.” Take a look and let me know if you agree:

It’s the year 2053, and the world looks very different from today. There are no more than 5 superstates left on the face of the planet:

  • An American Federation, covering the whole of North and South America;
  • An Indian Confederation, consisting of present-day India and Birma/Myanmar (Bangladesh seems to have disappeared under the sea);
  • An Asian republic dominated by China, further composed of Mongolia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand;
  • An Islamic Caliphate, occupying the whole of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Indonesia;
  • The Russian Empire, uniting Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, all of Europe and Greenland; and
  • All states except the Russian Empire own a slice of Antarctica (I suppose that in exchange, Russia rules the North Pole all by itself).

That’s the thesis of Third Empire, a recently published futuristic novel by Mikhail Yuryev. In the book, Yuryev predicts that the Russian Empire will be re-created in a few decades’ time. This ‘Third Empire’ (I presume Tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union were the first and second) will obliterate the three Baltic states in 2015 and defeat the USA in the nuclear exchange that many feared for most of the second half of the twentieth century but was thought unthinkable after the end of the Cold War in the 1990s.

    You stumbled onto a secret plan that you were not intended to find. Now you can stock up food to survive, or gamble with the future.

    Don — I’ll be so old by 2053 that I probably won’t be too worried about survival. To boot, my long-term future will not be dependent upon food as man cannot live on bread alone.

    Good reply. However, at warnamerica.org a canadian christian prophet seems to agree on the war between us-russia part. He say’s it’ll happen by 2010. I don’t know how trustworthy a source that is, but hey, safe or sorry.

    Don — As a former Cold Warrior, I’ve never trusted the Russians — even after the breakup of the old Soviet Union — and I don’t trust China. Both are quite capable of attempting to wage a quiet, bloodless takeover of the West. As for a war with Russia by 2010, anything is possible with Vlad Putin in power (or pulling the strings). Meanwhile, keep an eye on Hu Jintao of China. I think he’s quite capable of Putinesqua actions as well.

    Having lived through a fair portion of the Cold War (I launched a couple-three months ahead of Sputnik), I can (almost) take a sympathetic view of Putin’s feeling of impotence: once the Big Bad Bullyski on the Block in Europe/Asia, The Soviets suddenly became the UFFR (Union of Fewer and Fewer Republics). And now, the big bad burka on the block are the Islamofascists. And Putin can’t stand being eclipsed by a collection of sand-flea turbaned zealots. Of course, he need worry more about HIS southern border than us, but eh…it’s easier for him to join the “Hate Dubya” movement (after all, the Daily Kos sounds so…hometown and Pravada to Putin).

    So, we and the Russkies are going to have a nukefest in 2010? Now THAT explains the wave of Russian bride wannabes trying to get over here. It’s all part of the Putin/KGB conspiracy: overrun the USA wid Russian women (secretly trained as Commie Kommandos, especially during PMS-ski), and the fifth column is established…. ;-)
