With the 2008 elections barely 12 months away and Halloween just around the corner, it appears that at least two contenders in the presidential race have gotten a head-start when it comes to trick-or-treating.

Back in February, I blogged about Republican Rudy Giuliani’s checkered past, notably the much-publicized episodes (plural) during which he was seen in public wearing a “costume” that included a dress, a blond wig, lipstick, jewelry — the works! As a presidential candidate, he only wishes he could blame his cross-dressing past on Halloween. Unfortunately, he knows that won’t play in Peoria. More recently, several mainstream media outlets — including Associated Press and ABC News — published reports about Democrat Barack Obama spending all of one hour walking door to door in Des Moines, Iowa, in search of something “sweet.” In his case, “sweet” describes the feeling he expects to have upon receiving enough votes to win the White House in 2008.

If you’re lucky, you won’t have to encounter either of these politicians at your front door on Halloween or anywhere else during the next 12-plus months. In case you do, however, I recommend you wear one of the new “Boo!” shirts from The Bob McCarty Shop.
