UPDATE: To my shock and surprise, the much-talked-about $150 rebate check promised by Sprint (and discussed in the post below) arrived in my mailbox today. Finally, I can put my concerns about Sprint to rest — at least for now.

Loyal readers of Bob McCarty Writes know I’ve had a bear of a time dealing with my wireless phone carrier during the past few months. Today, I offer an update on my nightmarish experience that continues in the form of rebates promised by Sprint.

More than two months ago in this space, I published a post, Sprint Customer Lost in ‘Customer Service Hell’, in which I described the nightmare I experienced trying to renew/continue my customer relationship with the Kansas City-based carrier.

Barely two weeks later, I published a follow-up piece, Did Someone at Sprint Drop ‘F-Bombs’ on Me?, after someone with a computer based at Sprint.com tried to submit a profane comment on the original post.

Two days after publishing the “‘F-Bombs’ ” post, I got around to completing the task of requesting rebates of $50 per phone for the three new phones I had purchased in conjunction with my two-year service agreement.

Recalling that the last human being I spoke with at Sprint had told me my rebate would be processed within a week if I faxed it instead of mailing it, I began the rebate-by-fax process. I typed out and printed a page of information that included my name, mailing address and phone number at which I could be contacted as well as my account number, my wireless phone numbers, a rebates promotion code and descriptions of the phones purchased (i.e., manufacturer, model and quantity). Along with a copy of the packing slip that had arrived with my phones in early August, I faxed that information to Sprint Rebates Aug. 31, 2007.

As of this posting, 47 days — or nearly seven weeks — have passed, but my $150 rebate check from Sprint has yet to pass through my hands. Stay tuned…
