Few headlines in recent memory have left me feeling as pleased as the one that appeared above a Page Six piece by Richard Johnson in Sunday’s New York Post: DE PALMA IRAQ FLICK BOMBS.
Johnson explains that “audiences are really avoiding ‘Redacted,’ (Brian) De Palma’s picture about U.S. soldiers who rape a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, then kill her and her family.” Further he adds that the movie took in barely $25,000 — not $25 million — over the weekend after being viewed by roughly 3,000 moviegoers. And, finally, he quotes film critic Michael Medved as saying the movie “could be the worst movie I’ve ever seen.”
Though I haven’t — and won’t — see the film, I get the feeling its impact at the box office will compare to the low levels of support being generated by the Republican presidential campaign of former Law and Order actor Fred Thompson. Heck, according to one article today, even Ron Paul has passed Thompson in Iowa.
Perhaps the bumper sticker below captures my sentiments about Thompson’s White House aspirations best:
