MittWatch: I Am Mormon, Hear Me Roar
That headline appeared above an article about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney published today at The Bostonist. Inspired by it, I drafted new parody lyrics to the chart-topping song made famous by Helen Reddy in 1972. They appear below:

I Am Mormon, Hear Me Roar (to the tune of “I Am Woman” as sung by Helen Reddy in 1972)
I am Mormon, hear me roar
My wallet’s too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna vote for me againCHORUS
Oh yes I am rich
But its wealth that I have earned
Yes, I’ve paid the price
On flip flops I’ve been burned
If I have to, I will say anything
I am strong (strong)
I am electable (electable)
I am MormonYou may choose not to take me
but it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soulCHORUS
I am Mormon watch me grow
See me working for your vote
As I spread my Mormon cheer across the land
But I’m still a Mormon, so
There’s a long long way to go
Until I make the voters understandOh yes I am rich
But its wealth that I have earned
Yes, I’ve paid the price
On flip flops I’ve been burned
If I have to, I will say anything
I am strong (strong)
I am electable (electable)
I am MormonFADE
I am Mormon
I am electable
I am rich
I am Mormon

Note: As with previous song lyrics (see this post), I would appreciate anyone taking a stab at recording these lyrics for YouTube stardom. The only caveats I have are as follows:
- You have to give me credit for writing the parody lyrics;
- You have to include the name and web address of this blog — Bob McCarty Writes at www.BobMcCarty.com — prominently in the video; and, finally
- You have to forward the YouTube URL for the video to me immediately after (let’s say within 10 minutes) you upload the video to YouTube.
If you’re interested and willing to agree to the terms described above, go for it! Here’s a link to a site where the original song’s lyrics appear.

The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is often accused by Evangelical pastors of not believing in Christ and, therefore, not being a Christian religion. This article http://mormonsarechristian.blogspot.com/ helps to clarify such misconceptions by examining early Christianity’s comprehension of baptism, the Godhead, the deity of Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) adheres more closely to First Century Christianity and the New Testament than any other denomination. Harper’s Bible Dictionary entry on the Trinity says “the formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the New Testament.”
Perhaps the reason the pastors denigrate the Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is to protect their flock (and their livelihood). It is encouraging that Paul Weyrich, Wayne Grudem and Bob Jones III, (along with Jay Sekulow, Mark DeMoss, and Dr. John Willke, a founder and past president of the National Right to Life Committee.) have rejected bigotry and now support Mitt Romney on the basis that he is the most moral candidate with the best qualifications.

Bot — The post above contains no accusations or misconceptions. Instead, it offers Truth such as that found in the book, Mormonism Unmasked, by R. Philip Roberts.
As for adherence to first-century Christianity and your allegations that “the reason pastors denigrate the Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is to protect their flock (and their livelihood),” I need only point to Scripture to prove you’re mistaken: I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. — Rev. 22:18-19.
As for the endorsements, all I can say is that every candidate has his supporters and detractors.
As for the “most moral” status, I’d have to challenge you by saying that he is, instead, the “most gullible” candidate.

[...] hit song, I Am Woman, hit the #1 spot on the pop charts. Nearly 35 years later, I wrote a post, Headline Inspires Mitt Romney Song Parody, which contained lyrics to a Mitt Romney-related parody of that song, I Am Mormon, Hear Me Roar). [...]

With all of this Mitt hysteria, no wonder we’re living in the LATTER DAZE. Can’t this cardboard cut-out TV anchor wannabe ever stick to the same talking points on any single issue? He’s about as confusing as the doctrines of his church. Well, Huckabee’s another religious fanatic, so I will be voting for RUDY, RUDY, RUDY!!!!!

Andres — In Revelation 3:16, Jesus says, “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Translated, that means it’s better to be a fanatic. Go Huck!
