If you enjoy drinking beer, wine, whiskey or other alcoholic beverages, you have the people of Utah — and, perhaps, relatives of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney — to thank for it. Surprised? You shouldn’t be if you know your American history.
On this date 74 years ago, Utah became the last state in the nation to ratify the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, thus nullifying the 18th Amendment and making the sale and transportation of liquor legal once again in the United States.
