Reagan’s Image to Appear on Mt. Rushmore?

December 5th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Reagan on Rushmore Artwork

According to the postscript of an article making the rounds at sites like Human Events and Newt.org, “Ambassador Eckert is leading an effort to have President Ronald Reagan’s image added to Mount Rushmore alongside Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.”

The article’s writer, Newt Gingrich, concludes with this plea: “I urge you to click here and show your support for Ronald Reagan.”

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any web site related to any effort by Ambassador Eckert — and I’m assuming that’s Fred J. Eckert, though the aforementioned Gingrich article does not clarify the fact — to immortalize “The Great Communicator” on a South Dakota hillside. By following the “click here” instruction in the article, I did find a site where I could purchase artwork like that shown above.

At that site, I also found this message: A portion of all proceeds from our copyrighted “Reagan on Rushmore” art image will be donated to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library to help insure that his legacy will live on for future generations of Americans.

So, if you have some extra coins and think Reagan deserves to have his likeness appear on Mt. Rushmore, go ahead and purchase the artwork — click here. And if you see/hear/read anything about any effort(s) to make it happen, please let me know.

I didn’t think Ambassador Eckert was making the claim of “leading” the effort to get President Reagan enshrined on Rushmore. In other references I’ve seen he’s noted that many have advocated this – even legislation introduced in Congress – and he is concerned that it has fizzled since the memory of the Reagan funeral faded. He thinks that conservatives need to “show” the idea and not merely talk about it, suggesting that if enough people start to see Reagan on Rushmore portrayed in enough homes and offices across America the effort might turn into a popular groundswell. Jack Kemp is quoted as agreeing with the Ambassador. Check out the piece in this morning’s Washington Times : http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20071206/NATION02/112060082

Cyndi — Right. What I wrote above was what Newt wrote “Ambassador Eckert is leading an effort to have President Ronald Reagan’s image added to Mount Rushmore…” Thanks for the comment.

That draft-dodging, big spending [with our tax dollars], red baiting, adulterous, dealin’ with the Iranians, bad B movie phony will ‘grace’ Mt. Rushmore when Anne Coulter shacks up with Bill Clinton.

emtoh — It must be lonely being one of the few people in this country who doesn’t recognize Ronald Reagan was a great president.

Well, it won’t happen for 4 years at least, but I would love to see it – I might actually take a vacation for the first time in my life to go see that.

Believe me, emtoh is NOT ALONE in thinking Reagan was (at least till Bush!) the worst president this nation has ever known. We are legion.

Everything we’re going through today is a direct result of his idiotic ideas.

And you probably think Obama’s wonderful, too. Hope you come out of your stupor soon.
