‘People of Russia Have Disgraced Themselves’

December 10th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Today, one week after fraudulent elections were held in Russia, La Russophobe’s Kim Zigfeld offers her opinion about the future of the former Soviet state under President Vladimir Putin. Her editorial, entitled, Chapter One Ends Today, Chapter Two Begins, begins this way:

Putin’s RussiaOnce again, the people of Russia have disgraced themselves and their country before the eyes of the civilized world, a world which must now see them as they are, the prime causal factor of their own suffering, not the victims of cruel arbitrary abuse from on high.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? Russians fancy themselves a highly advanced, cultured nation, and yet, like the famous Emperor with his New Clothes, they are utterly unable to see themselves as everyone else in the world does — a barbaric nation to all appearances not even at the same stage of human evolution.

This “Kim Zigfeld” is a fraud. She writes now for the Kremlin-funded “Russia!” magazine and sells her coffee mugs through them. The same Kremlin company that owns Russia! also bought out the Russian blogger company LiveJournal with the aim of controlling the free internet forums. Ask Zigfeld why she sold out to the Kremlin, she’s disappointed a lot of people.

    Interesting. I’ll ask.

    RAY:

    You are deeply confused.

The piece I published in Russia! is a brutal attack on the Putin regime. If the Kremlin is paying for it, I’m delighted to receive their support. You might have tried reading it before you came to any conclusions:

There’s no evidence I’m aware of that Russia! being a Kremlin propaganda screed. Perhaps you are confusing it with Russia Blog and Russia Profile and Russia Today?

I am not selling any coffee mugs, nor do I receive any financial compensation of any kind from Russia! magazine. All I’ve done is to mention their effort to sell “russophobe” mugs, in which I have no interest whatsoever, because I find it amusing.

Meanwhile, I dare you to find just one item I’ve ever published that anyone in their right mind could possibly view as being pro-Kremlin. I mercilessly attack the Kremlin every single day on three different blogs: La Russophobe, Publius Pundit and Pajamas Media, and am viewed worldwide as being one of the Kremlin’s most ferocious critics. I will continue to do so.

Thanks, Kim. I think you’ve set the record straight.
