Twas the Night of the Caucus…

January 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m not an Iowa voter, but I spent some “quality time” over the weekend imagining what one might be thinking as he considers his options. A product of that time appears below:

Twas the Night Before Caucus Poem

Few voters actually participate in the Iowa caucuses, according to one report today. Among those who do, I can’t imagine there exists anything close to a majority of voters — Democrat or Republican — who are truly satisfied with any of the candidates on the ballot. That in mind, I can’t think of a better reason to add a “None of the Above” (a.k.a., “NOTA”) option to the presidential primary ballots in 2008.

When a NOTA option appears on a ballot, the possibility exists that no candidate will receive a majority of the votes cast. If such an event were to transpire during the upcoming presidential primaries, which are taking place earlier than ever this election year, we would conceivably have enough time to draft a new slate of candidates and stage follow-up primaries until one candidate from each party — including Independent — received a majority.

Just a thought from Bob McCarty Writes.

I’m a former Iowan, but was never one of voting age; still, I find your ’twas the night of the Caucus amusing ;-)

I’m bad this year; I didn’t even try to pick any winners in the college bowl games. My 10-6 pick for the Denver Broncos regular season speaks for how I was calling things this year LOL.

NOTA among other changes in the political procedure is in order. Good one, Bob.
