What a Difference a Year Makes for Obama, McCain

February 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment

What a difference a year makes.

A review of two Bob McCarty Writes posts published a year ago this week reveals exactly how much things have changed during the past 12 months for two presidential candidates.

In a Feb. 1, 2007, post, CNN Compares Obama to Ahmadinejad, I reported that the Atlanta-based cable news giant’s Jeff Greenfield had compared Democrat BARACK OBAMA’s “threads” to those of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The post included a YouTube video of Greenfield’s report about the upstart first-term U.S. senator from Illinois and the fact that his wardrobe so closely resembled the Iranian president. Unfortunately, that video was removed from YouTube sometime during the past 365 days, probably a result of CNN execs becoming aware that Obama just might win his party’s nomination.

In a Feb. 4, 2007, post, McCain Assembling Team of ‘Political Bruisers’, I wrote about a New York Times article in which Jim Rutenberg reported Republican JOHN McCAIN was “assembling a team of political bruisers for 2008” with his goal being to succeed “where his freewheeling presidential campaign of 2000 failed.” Unfortunately for conservatives, it appears the Arizona senator’s strategy and truth-optional, win-at-all-cost approach seems to be working.
