the first thing i heard wen i walked in the door of my home about 25mins ago was that there was a shooting in kirkwood. all i could think was “what is this world coming to?” the next thing i hear is that multiple people were shot, later that two policemen had died… after hearing this i cried. we need to pray for the families affected by this horrific crime, and we have to pray for those crazed individuals who think its their responsibility to KILL other ppl. I lived in Kirkwood for 2 years and it is a beautiful and wonderful place to live. I now live just a few miles away and will travel through and to Kirkwood at any time. I understand that it has been the topic of some serious news as of late but you can’t assume it’s the place that is bad. The people who have committed these crimes could have committed them anywhere, even next door to you.

I knew the shooter from elementary school (15 or so years ago). he was a mentor that volunteered his time to spend in the classroom with the students. At that time I saw him as someone I could look up to. I am shocked that he could have done something like this. What could have happened in his life to bring him to this point. It is so sad – for everyone involved!

Wow! Sad is, indeed, the operative word. Our hearts go out to the people of Kirkwood.

It always seems to hit harder, when it happens in “small town America”. Sadly, it only takes one person going over the edge, to turn a nice, clean, neat, quiet community into chaos and world headlines.

This is so sad. How could a man think he was in the rights by doing this. This guy must of had no moral value. Its people like him who make parent worrie when there children go out…

This is terrible. Im glad this man got shot and didn’t have the chance to plead insanity. I personaly think the police department deserves a big slap on the back for their bravery in killing the “terrorist”

I feel for the families of the victims. I can’t help but feel that this incident has been given a ridiculous amount of media attention. There’s almost a underlying message that this happened in Kirkwood and people there are better than the rest of us. Kirkwood has a lot of money. That’s why this has been given so much attention. If this happened in East St. Louis, we would have heard very little about it.

Jane — I think you’re right when it comes to your statement about East St. Louis. We might, however, differ on the reason for that. I suspect it’s because — like it or not — shooting crimes are much less common in Kirkwood than they are in East St. Louis. Thanks for your comment.

Those people in Kirkwood are a bunch of Racist and are reaping what they sew.
15 DEANNA // Feb 12, 2008 at 12:32 am
Jane, I agree with you. They are making Kirkwood the Victims, when they are the Problem.

DEANNA — Those are pretty harsh words for someone who is likely basing her opinion solely upon limited exposure to news reports. I know people in Kirkwood and truly believe people in that community are no different than people anywhere else in this country. I’m sure there are some racists, but the vast majority of people there are not.
17 The Truth // Apr 14, 2009 at 9:19 pm
What a frickin’ joke. i am writing a book about the rampant corruption in Kirkwood’s City government. The bribes and kickbacks to build that disgusting strip mall will be revealed. Moreover, do you know hoe many times Shawn Hornbeck went to the Kirkwood Imo’s? I know for a fact that he was there numerous times when Kirkwood law enforcement went to pick up their pizzas.
This is not the Kirkwood I grew up in. The city has been overrun by greedy, selfish ingrates like Deanne Lane, who would not tell the truth about anything if a gun was pointed at her lying head.
The truth will be revealed!!!

So you want honesty and transparency in government? Why don’t you set the bar high as a start and stop hiding behind a screen name while making accusations. Surely, there aren’t so many publishers eager to sign you to a book contract that you have to hide behind anonymity on the web — are there?

Why don’t you stop hiding behind a screen name and the cesspool that you protect. Cookie was right about one thing: the truth will come out in the end.
The end is approaching.
