Having grown tired of waiting for Gov. Eliot Spitzer to emerge from his apartment and make some sort of statement — hopefully a resignation announcement — regarding his alleged involvement in an international prostitution ring, I decided to take action and call the Empire State Democrat and tell him to get on with it.

Not knowing how to reach the first-term governor and former crime-fighting attorney general, I turned to Superpages.com and entered his first and last names in the appropriate boxes. Not knowing his address or the neighborhood in which he and his wife Silda live, I left the location box blank and clicked on the “search” box.

Lo and behold, my search produced one result which showed a listing for Eliot & Silda Spitzer — minus a street address — in Pine Plains, NY.

Immediately, I dialed the number listed and waited for an answer. Not surprisingly, the phone rang several times before an answering machine kicked in and I heard the voice of a robot-like female say this:

“Hello. I’m unable to answer your call right now. Please leave your name, number and a message after the tone.”

Just as I was preparing to leave a message, I noticed out of the corner of my eye something about the television images from outside Spitzer’s apartment had changed. A black SUV had arrived in front of his apartment and whisked him away, presumably to his New York City office where he will, hopefully, make his resignation announcement.
