Review: Toaster Smells Like ‘Horrible Burnt Paint’

March 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I saw a cool combination four-hole toaster/two-egg cooker at Mental Floss this morning and was truly interested until, that is, I read one line of a customer review by someone named “Tim” from Atlanta (see red text below):

Toaster Plus

PRO’s:
1. Basically it does what it says-
2. I like the toast/muffin & eggs getting done at the same time.
3. The egg poaching works very well.

CON’s:
1. There is still a horrible burnt paint smell coming off the toaster evert time I use it – Which, Given that it is MADE IN CHINA, makes me a tad nervous.
2. For some reason the toast comes out very dry, regardless of the setting.
3. It is very large & clinking looking.
4. Just saw it at a local warehouse store for 1/2 of the price on Amazon.

While it’s almost impossible to avoid Made-in-China products these days, it’s easy to avoid products that emit a “horrible burnt paint smell” when they’re being used. I’ll keep looking.

Eh…it’s probably just designed to burn off the lead-based paint before another product recall occurs….
