Almost a year ago, Bloomberg News broke the news of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s grandiose plans to build a tunnel linking his nation and Alaska. Today, news about the bridge-building project is back.
The UK’s Times Online reports that former KGB spy chief Putin plans to share his bridge-building plan with President George Bush when they meet next Sunday at the Black Sea resort of Sochi. Now, I repeat the concern I raised in a post, ALERT: Russians Plan Tunnel Link to Alaska, April 18, 2007:
Here’s a disturbing piece of news from Bloomberg.com. I describe it as “disturbing,” because it’s about a project that involves giving Russia — currently under the increasingly-dictatorial leadership of former KGB chief-turned President Vladimir Putin — improved access to the United States. Seriously, does this country really need a third point of access — effectively another border — to defend?
