A description of a recent program produced by the supposedly-independent folks at Democracy Now! shows exactly how desperate the left appears to be. In short, they’ve used Barack Obama’s recent poor showing at a Pennsylvania bowling alley (he bowled a “37″) as “fertilizer” for turning victimhood into a political cash crop:

While jokes are being made of Obama’s bowling skills, forty years ago it was not easy for a black man to even enter some bowling alleys. In fact, in South Carolina, it led to a confrontation between black students and police that became known as the Orangeburg Massacre.

Sure, I could provide more of the details of the Orangeburg Massacre, but what’s the point? Most Americans agree that the 1960s racial tensions mentioned in the show’s description above are regrettable.

“Let’s move on,” I say, “and don’t let it happen again.”

But not the folks at Democracy Now! When they’re not bashing the Bush Administration over allegations of torture and wiretapping, it seems they’re content to using 40-year-old events as a means of promoting a presidential candidate who’s taken his fair share of hits in recent days over his poor choice of friends (i.e., Chicago Trinity United Church of Christ’s Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan)? For that, they ought to be ashamed.
