A Chicagoland woman who planned to cast her delegate vote at the Democrat National Convention in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama instead resigned after being ticketed $75 for calling some neighbor children “monkeys.”

What did the children do to warrant such a harsh rebuke from the woman, identified in a Chicago Sun-Times article this morning as Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski of Carpentersville? They were, without her permission, climbing the tree in her yard.

Recap: Kids climbing in trees were called “monkeys.” Imagine that!

Over the years, I’ve called my kids “monkeys” on numerous occasions. I guess that explains, in part, why I’m not an Obama-pledged delegate — and, for that matter, why I’m not a Democrat.
