Recently, I became aware of two groups of Americans who’ve given much thought to the question, “What would happen if, tomorrow, America’s trucking industry shut down?” In reality, all Americans should be interested in the answer.
Approximately 160,000 independent owner-operators and professional truck drivers are extremely interested and they’ve been trying to get the nation’s attention in recent weeks. On April 1, a large number of them shut down their rigs to protest — among other things — skyrocketing fuel costs and demand government intervention to rescue the independent trucker. I’ve written three posts on the subject during the last 10 days:
No Joke: Truckers to ‘Shut Down’ April 1
A much smaller group answered the aforementioned question, in part, by producing a soon-to-be-released documentary, Big Rig, that offers an eye-opening look into the souls of American truck drivers and shows just how crucial this industry is to America. Click here to read the news release about the film and find out about a nationwide screening tour planned by the film’s makers, Ocule and Screen Media Films.
I’ve requested a copy to screen and, if I get it, I’ll let you know more about it in a future post.

The old saying, “If you bought it, a truck brought it.” Is the truest statement ever heard. Truck Driver’s are the back bone of this nation. They put up with a lot of crap and a corrupt industry that takes advantage of them. They are deserving of everyone’s respect. If you really want to know what it’s like or what Trucking is all about watch Big Rig!
