Americans should continue to be vigilant, take notice of their surroundings and report suspicious items or activities to local authorities immediately, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s current threat level as of this posting. One week from today, however, Americans should expect that threat level to rise — not due to external threats, but because of home-grown activities expected to last 24 hours.
On April 15, fewer police officers are expected to be on the nation’s streets. The reason: Dunkin’ Donuts plans to offer every customer a free donut with the purchase of any size cup of Dunkin’ Donuts’ hot coffee. As of this posting, neither the Department of Homeland Security nor the FBI has issued any bulletin or warning regarding this news.
In an e-mail this morning, I posed the question below to officials at Dunkin’ Donuts headquarters:
Is Dunkin’ Donuts at all concerned about the likelihood of this tax-deadline day event causing a shortage of police officers on the street and, thereby, putting the personal security of millions of Americans — particularly, those who live in cities where Dunkin’ Donuts operates — at risk? Please respond ASAP.
