Now in his seventh season as host of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest keeps viewers interested, in part, by sharing information about the contestants, the judges and the hype surrounding the weekly talent competition. Unfortunately, he’s not as forthcoming with information when it comes to describing the show’s annual fundraising effort.

“‘Idol Gives Back,’ on the surface, seems to be motivated by good intentions,” said Erik Whittington, youth program director for the pro-life group, American Life League. “But, the reality is that American Idol is funding non-profits, such as Save the Children and The Children’s Defense Fund, that promote immorality and abortion on demand.”

In a news release today, ALL disclosed facts many Americans will be shocked to learn. For instance:

By the close of the American Idol fundraising telethon Wednesday night, the campaign raised $60 million for Children’s Defense Fund, Children’s Health Fund, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, Make it Right, Malaria No More, and Save the Children.

In 2001, Save the Children worked with pro-abortion organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the Population Action Council and the Audubon Society on its five-year “Planet Campaign.” Save the Children has stated that “family planning” is a critical component of its work.

“The term ‘family planning’ is code for contraception, sex-ed programs, and abortion on demand,” said Whittington. “Like Save the Children, The Children’s Defense Fund and its founder also have ties to abortion advocacy groups, pushing their agenda on kids.”

“People who truly care about the well being of children around the world need to get the facts and support truly pro-child and pro-family charities.”

Related Note: Most likely due to the fact that a nonprofit organization like ALL can get in trouble with the IRS for dabbling in politics, ALL chose to leave out of their news release the fact that one Democrat presidential candidate — Hillary Clinton — has close ties to the Children’s Defense Fund. According to her biography on a White House web site, she advised CDF in Cambridge, Mass., following her graduation from Wellesley College. Later, while First Lady of Arkansas, she served on the CDF board. Today, she appear’s on the CDF web site’s Board of Directors Emeritus page.
