You’ve probably seen his work in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia and Song of the South as well as Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp. In addition, you’ve likely seen his inspired animation and directorial contributions to Sleeping Beauty, Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book. And you’re probably among the millions worldwide who’ve marveled at his work in such classics as Robin Hood, The Rescuers and The Fox and the Hound. His name? Ollie Johnston.
One of the greatest animators/directing animators in animation history and the last surviving member of Walt Disney’s elite group of animation pioneers known affectionately as the “Nine Old Men,” Johnston passed away from natural causes at a long term care facility in Sequim, Wash., yesterday at 95.
