The people who deliver food to stores, schools, restaurants, or hospitals would be laid off. (trucking companies would close down) Traveling (e.g., by train, plane, bus or car) will be the thing of the past. If that happens it could be about twice as worse then what happened in the 1970s with the gas crisis. As a professional, if that is what he calls himself, he shouldn't take his position so defensively and instead be apologetic for misleading the consumer. A lesson in business and writing etiquette would definitely help the "Bob" to become a not so novice writer.
