While some people might cringe at the thought of seeing more dead animals on Illinois roadways, members of the cup-half-full crowd will view a recent decision by the state department of transportation as one that creates opportunities to lower grocery bills and, more importantly, fight hunger in the state.

IDOT officials said yesterday their crews will continue to remove dead animals in driving lanes and any deemed hazardous to motorists, according to recent news accounts, but the rest of the roadkill will be left for scavengers.
