The New York Post is reporting Tim Russert, host/moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” died today after suffering from an apparent heart attack at the network’s Washington news bureau. He was 58.
Russert, who also served as managing editor of the NBC program, was only the ninth person ever to be a permanent host of the program, according to the show’s web site. He was in his fourteenth year, making him the longest serving moderator in the history of the show.

I will miss Tim Russert. There was a decency and fairness about him. I had the sense that he was a real person whom I would respect, if not like, if ever we were to meet.

The news of Tim Russert’s untimely death is truly devastating. He was a giant in the news and information industry to whom so many looked for honesty and clarity. Sunday mornings will never be the same. Tim Russert was not only the best at what he did, he was irreplaceable.
My deepest sympathies to his family.
