Over-taxed and economically-stressed voters in Michigan had opportunities to hear some tall tales today, delivered in the form of campaign promises made by Barack Obama during a two-day campaign swing through the state:
A promise: Obama said he wants to create a new community college system to prepare students for life after school and help them compete for jobs, according to one report. He also said he will provide more grants to community college students.
- Another promise: According to another report, Obama’s talking about spending billions of dollars to retool our economy and shift our priorities for the 21st Century.
- And another promise: In this article, he touts spending money to help the auto companies retool to build more fuel-efficient cars. Talk about throwing money into a hole.
- And a promise in limbo: Sadly, according to an AFP report today, the prospective Democrat Party presidential nominee remains uncommitted to setting a date for making a trip to Iraq.
Though he didn’t offer details regarding the source(s) of money he’ll tap to pay to turn these promises into realities, anyone who’s followed the freshman senator from Illinois knows the answer: It’s you and me, American taxpayers — people he plans to drain via higher taxes.
