Obama Campaign Enforces ‘Dress Code’ at Rallies

June 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

It appears the Barack Obama campaign is enforcing a “dress code” that discriminates against people whose appearance might cause some voters to hop off the Obama bandwagon.

Quite a few news media outlets reported on the latest gaffe involving the campaign. It took place on Monday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit and, according to an ABC News report, two Muslim women “were refused seats directly behind Barack Obama and in front of TV cameras at a Detroit rally because they wear head scarfs.”

So much for Obama’s “Change We Can Believe In.”

A campaign gaffe, yes, but not the backwards anti-muslim policy you imply. Obama’s people on the ground simply got caught in the act of anticipating what the right-wing pundits and swift-boaters might invent about his middle name and his support in the muslim world. Oversensitivity to media backlash, perhaps, but certainly not the discrimination this event has been made out to be.
