A New York Daily News report this morning highlights how Barack Obama’s staff performed virtual surgery of sorts over the weekend, purging his campaign web site of the presumptive Democrat Party presidential nominee’s harsh criticism of the successful troop surge initiated by President George W. Bush last year. After reading the piece, I fear what lies ahead for the American people if this practice continues.
My fear is best described when I compare this Obama campaign tactic to the long and painful treatment endured by a burn victim.
A burn victim goes through many painful skin-graft operations, focused on the goal of returning to something that resembles a “normal” appearance and a “normal” life. The process involves removing dead skin and growing new skin in its place. The process can take months and is, according to most accounts, agonizingly painful.
Similarly, the Obama campaign web site will likely go through many more surgical procedures during the next four months in order to make the candidate appear more “normal” or, in political speak, “voteworthy.” Issues that make Obama appear unelectable to most Americans (i.e., the “dead skin”) will be removed from view — but only until the election is over.
Will the Obama strategy work? Sadly, I suspect it will, since the vast majority of Americans who exercise their most-important Constitutional right wait until the last minute to pay scant attention to the election and to the candidates seeking their votes.
Voters who conduct an 11th-hour evaluation of Obama by perusing his campaign web site might very well find a candidate they like. Unbeknownst to them, however, will be the information that paints a picture of the junior senator from Illinois as he really is. That picture — you know, the one that’s worth a thousand words — will be kept out of sight in a closet at Obama campaign’s Chicago headquarters until after the election.
Here’s to hoping that picture remains in the closet after November, destined to collect dust alongside pictures painted by George McGovern, Al Gore and John Kerry on the ash heap of failed liberal presidential bids.

kbTexan — If Obama’s memory hole doesn’t fill up soon, he poses a great DANGER to us all.
