‘Bipolar Bear Disorder’ Cases Expected to Increase

August 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Bipolar bear disorder is a new and unexpected bi-product of a contentious legal battle over the protected status of polar bears. Sadly, the number of polar bears being diagnosed with this affliction is expected to increase precipitously over the coming months, according to experts on the syndrome who spoke to Bob McCarty Writes on condition of anonymity.

Because bipolar disorder in humans is defined as any of several psychological disorders of mood characterized usually by alternating episodes of depression and mania, it stands to reason that a diagnosis of “bipolar bear disorder” is in order and should be applied to any polar bear whose emotional well-being is negatively impacted by the aforementioned legal battle.

The latest updates on that legal battle can be found in a post at Gateway Pundit this morning. It notes the fact that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is suing the federal government, seeking to reverse the decision to put the polar bear on the threatened species list. Palin’s suit comes barely three months after the U.S. Department of the Interior put the creatures on its threatened species list, despite the fact that there are five times as many polar bears today as there were 50 years ago.
