During one of my regular visits to BarackObama.com, an icon on the right side of the site’s home page — for something called the “NATIONAL VOTER PROTECTION CENTER” — caught my eye.
Serving not just as a link to a voter protection center, this icon linked to a “NATIONAL” voter protection center where voters and prospective voters alike could “REPORT A PROBLEM.”
By using the word “NATIONAL” in the name of the so-called “CENTER,” the Obama campaign attempts to project the message that he’s out to protect the rights of all voters — or, at a minimum, the rights of all who plan to vote for the presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee. Admirable? Uh, no.
After clicking on the icon, I was whisked to this page where the same icon — minus the “REPORT A PROBLEM” banner — appeared just below the page tabs in the center of the page. Below it, a message appeared:
ARE YOU A LAWYER? HELP THE CAMPAIGN PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS?
On election day across the country over the coming months, we will need lawyers willing to help us stand up for everyone’s right to be heard.
Immediately below that paragraph, a VOLUNTEER NOW button offered to take me to a place where lawyers can sign up to assist the expecting-to-be-victimized Obama for President campaign. When I clicked on that button, I arrived at another page where a vastly different icon had replaced the NATIONAL VOTER PROTECTION CENTER icon.
Now, instead of touting protection of all voters, the Obama camp promotes only the protection of Obama voters via the OBAMA VOTER PROTECTION CENTER as evidenced by the icon at right appearing on that just-linked-to page.
By simply following the icon trail, I was able to see that Obama’s pretense of serving the national interests is — after only two mouse clicks — replaced by motives that serve only his interests.
Admirable? Not at all!
[Note: I used the past tense in references to Obama's web site, fully expecting that it will soon "change," per his campaign slogan.]

It is not a program to protect ONLY those who plan to vote for Obama – come on. It is a program to protect ALL voters on election day – the program is simply run by Obama. McCain’s efforts to ensure that every eligible citizen can vote on election day would also be greatly appreciated.

Allison is exactly right. The program’s instructions are explicit–the job is to help every person who is legally entitled to vote do so, regardless of their apparent political affiliation.
