Hillary Clinton Succumbs to ‘Obamamania’

August 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Sen. Hillary Clinton took the stage of the Democratic National Convention in Denver tonight amidst much fanfare, many waving signs and minutes of feigned-for-television enthusiasm.  In the end, however, I can only conclude that she, like so many other liberals, has succumbed to “Obamamania.”  Below is a rough transcript of the first several minutes of that speech:

“I am so honored to be here tonight.

“I’m here tonight as a proud mother, as a proud Democrat, as a proud senator from New York, a proud American and a proud supporter of Barack Obama.*

“My friends, it is time to take back the country we love and whether you voted for me or you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose.

“We are on the same team, and none of us can afford to sit on the sidelines.  This is a fight for the future, and its a fight we must win together.

“I haven’t spent the past 35 years in the trenches advocating for children, campaigning for universal health care, helping parents balance work and family and fighting for women’s rights here at home and around the world to see another republican in the white house squander our promise as a country that really fulfills the hopes of our people.”

Rather than rattle on with a transcript of the remainder of her blather, let me summarize the remainder of her speech:

She blathered on by delivering several more lines of rhetoric and telling several touching stories — written, no doubt, by some up-and-coming young speechwriters — before acknowledging the recent deaths of two Democratic Party leaders.

For several more minutes, she bashed President George W. Bush, rambled through her party’s talking points and, while swallowing her pride no doubt, pretended to explain the reasons she ran for president and why she supports Barack Obama for president.

She closed by bashing Republican John McCain, throwing in some feminist fighting words — couched within talk about the umpteenth anniversary of women’s suffrage — and doing her best impression of a female Gen. George S. Patton to fire up the Democratic Party “troops.”

*I found it funny that Hillary didn’t include the phrase, “proud wife of Bill Clinton,” in the opening portion of her speech.
