John McCain Introduces Sarah Palin as VP Pick

August 29th, 2008 · 3 Comments

In a move Forbes describes as “an out-of-the-box pick for McCain” and “a shrewd move by a campaign anxious to exploit the primary rift in the Democratic Party,” Republican presidential nominee John McCain made history this morning by introducing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.  In accepting the role, Palin became the first woman in history to serve on the GOP presidential ticket.

“I have found the right partner,” he said before offering a litany of descriptive statements about the first-term governor of the state that lies farther from Washington, D.C., than any other in the union.

Her experience:  Union member.  Point guard.  PTA member.  City council member.  Mayor.  Governor.  Devoted wife.  Mother of five.

After listening to McCain describe her and her political experience, I can only conclude that her nickname ought to be “Mrs. Maverick.”

[Note: Unbelievably, audio feedback plagued the announcement from start to finish.  The audio guy at the venue in Dayton should be fired.]

You caught me, Theo. Perhaps I should have used the word, “serious” before “presidential ticket.”
