After Republican John McCain surprised Americans with the choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate, the presumptive vice presidential nominee and her husband Todd surprised the nation this morning with news about their 17-year-old daughter Bristol being five months pregnant. The statement below appeared on the McCain-Palin web site:
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”
According to a Reuters report, the 44-year-old first-term governor of Alaska said she made the announcement in order to squelch rumors by liberal bloggers (a.k.a., Daily Kos) that she had faked her own pregnancy last year to cover up for a first pregnancy of her daughter.
It won’t be long until those same liberals urge Bristol to “do the right thing and end the pregnancy (a.k.a., “have an abortion”)” and so-called “comedians” on late night television begin making jokes about the possibility of a “shotgun wedding” at the White House.
Unlike those in the Hollywood, pro-abortion Planned Parenthood crowd, however, members of the Palin family value life and will never even consider such a vile and disgusting move.
Hat’s off to the governor for doing what’s right and to McCain for standing by his running mate and her family in the face of much scrutiny.
P.S. Pray for Bristol, Levi and the baby on the way.

UPDATE 9-02-08: Many lefty liberal nuts think photos of Sarah Palin published by Daily Kos constitute “proof” that she wasn’t pregnant during the nine months before her fifth child was born. For proof that the Alaska governor — and not her daughter Bristol — WAS pregnant with her fifth child, take a look at this Hot Air post published today.

Palin sets the record straight on daughter’s pregnancy…
Palin Announces Daughter’s Pregnancy. Good for Sarah Palin for getting this new out. She should have done this in her acceptance speech so the Kos followers would not have started the vile rumors that were picked up as truth. We offer our prayers …

If it’s possible for these candidates to have garnered more of my respect, they just did. By Palin making that statement, and by McCain supporting her as his running mate, they’ve just very effectively cut off any further discussion on the subject. Well done, Team McCain, and very best wishes to the two young parents. A first child, especially, IS something of wonder. Republicans, let’s rally around our candidates, shall we? And not permit mainstream media to make a mockery of Bristol choosing life for her child!
PS I was a lifelong Democrat who put my support behind McCain last May. It’s time to put aside party affiliations and simply vote for the best candidate. Hands down, that’s McCain.

You guys are funny, great family values? sex before marriage at 17? Maybe she was too busy being governor or having her own child. Thank god there was not a war to take care of too.

So let me get this straight. Daily Kos spreads a lame rumor about the pregnancy and that is “vile” yet perpetuating an already disproven issue like “Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud” is not? Talk about double standards…

Slade — First of all, Obama’s the candidate, not Palin’s daughter. Second, I described the “option” of abortion as “vile,” not the DailyKos crap. Finally, the birth certificate issue remains to be settled. Advice: In the future, please read and comprehend each post before commenting.

Does anyone think the hardline right is being duped by Sarah Palin’s political duplicity after reading the statement about the daughter’s pregnancy and Sarah’s own recent pregnancy? Here’s where the real issue exists. In a “prepared” written statement, the Palins proclaim. “We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.” Bristol’s “decision”? Isn’t that “pro-choice” for Sarah Palin’s daughter? Similarly, as a minor, why would their daughter even have a “choice” in the matter? And while the media hangs on every extemporaneous verbal comment by the candidates, a prepared written statement acknowledging a minor’s “choice” to have her baby and continue the pregnancy is made by a candidate who claims to support the denial of these rights to all other women and married couples.
Sarah Palin’ own recent pregnancy raise the same “pro-choice” concerns for the hard right. First, she is protrayed as knowing the Down Syndrome affliction of the child she carried and “chose” to have the child anyways. Similarly, her own pregnancy demontrates she did consider abortion as a choice. That is, in order to know she was going to have a Down Syndrome child, she had to have been offered and consented to an invasive procedure (amniocentisis – sp?), agreed to genetic testing and agreed to be advised of the results. If she is hard “pro-life” as she is being branded for the right, once she knew she was pregnant, there was no need for the tests or the results since the information was irrelevant to the pregnancy. Her alleged hard pro-life principles required her to carry the fetus to term regardless of the information obtained. These facts, and her admission she “chose” to carry the fetus to term upon obtaining and considering this information, shows she does in fact support choice. The bottom line, she is duping the “pro-life” right with her politically expedient branding while she engages in conduct which evidences “pro-choice”. In short, “choice” for me and mine, but not for the rest of you. Now, if only the media will explore these stark contradictions for the voters and make her explain the unexplainable. This is no longer about her daughter, it is Sarah Palins words and actions that are the issue. Peace, Out. By Lance Free

Lance,
Your comments are based upon faulty information, making me think you’ve never been involved in a pregnancy or with prenatal care.
Choosing to have an amniocentesis does not mean a person is considering abortion. I know, because my wife has been pregnant five times, and we’ve had more than one “amnio” procedure — and we never once considered abortion as an option.
