Not normally a fan of the New York Jets, I opted to watch their game against the Miami Dolphins today only because former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre was now calling signals for the squad from the Big Apple. And he didn’t disappoint.
With 8:52 to go in the first quarter, Favre launched a 56-yard strike to wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery.
Two possessions later, the Jets faced a 4th and 13 at the Dolphins’ 22-yard line. Because their field goal kicker Mike Nugent had been injured during a missed field goal attempt during that ended the previous series of downs, the Jets opted to go for the first down.
After taking the snap, Favre scrambled desperately for several seconds before finally opting to throw the ball toward the end zone in an effort that looked more like a punt substitute than it did a forward pass. Even so, it reached tight end Anthony Fasano who, two yards deep in the end zone, leaped high and pulled the ball in for a touchdown. Vintage Favre.
FYI: I switched channels at halftime when the Jets were leading the Dolphins, 13-7.
